Yohan Blake, often referred to by his nickname 'The Beast', is literally Richard Mille's biggest ambassador. Weighing in at 76 kg (168 lb) of pure muscle and with a top speed nearly equal to fellow-Jamaican Usain Bolt, he's an impressive athlete known for his hard work and dedication.

In 2013, Richard Mille worked with Yohan Blake to create a luxury sports watch with a tourbillon, which was capable of withstanding the hefty forces at work on the arms and body of an elite sprinter. The result was an absolute monster of a luxury watch, which boasts an aerodynamic case made from injected carbon nanotubes. The original Yohan Blake model also boasts a 'beast' of a price, thanks to that tourbillon.
So in 2015, Richard Mille unveiled the RM061-01 Yohan Blake All Black. Also known as the 'Baby Blake', this model does away with the tourbillon to reach your wrist for a price that's almost three times lower. Everything you loved about the first Yohan Blake model is there (the shape, the powerful, deep look of the skeletonised movement), but everything that made the RM059 such a niche timepiece (the price, the insane yellow and green finish) is gone.
The Richard Mille RM061-01 Yohan Blake All Black is, as its name suggests, finished completely in black. The 50 mm case is constructed from front and back bezels in black TPZ ceramic, and casebands made from black NTPT carbon—a favourite material of Richard Mille's, and one with a unique finish. The beautiful, wood-grain effect of NTPT is created by the thousands of split carbon fibres layered in parallel, then finished and polished to create something quite stunning.
The only accents on the Richard Mille RM061-01 Yohan Blake All Black are the bridges, baseplate, and hour markers—all of which are highlighted in white. The hour markers are pips coated with lume, and there are tiny lume arrows painted at the ends of the hour and minute hands. The second hand is tipped with a red point.
As with all of Richard Mille's luxury watches, the movement takes centre stage. In the Yohan Blake All Black, it's a manually-wound calibre with a 55-hour power reserve: RMUL2. View is through both the front and back of the case, with sapphire crystal treated on both sides with anti-glare materials. The exceptional hardness of the sapphire crystal on the dial side is just one of the durability features built into this luxury watch: the Yohan Blake All Black is also tested to withstand a ridiculous 5,000 Gs of stress.
The Richard Mille RM61-01 Yohan Blake All Black is designed to be worn, and worn hard. The unusual case shape is the result of careful research and development, conducted (as is usual for Richard Mille) in the field: this time, on Blake's wrist. The left-hand side of the case (which would be the leading edge for Yohan Blake , who wears his watch on his right wrist) is lower and slimmer, which reduces the drag coefficient of the watch as it moves through the air on those rapidly-pumping arms. The movement weighs in at a tiny 4.3 g, presented the smallest possible burden for Blake to run with. And the NTPT carbon crown is guarded from impact by two huge, sweeping crown protectors as well as the Alcryn collar seen on most Richard Mille pieces.
The Yohan Blake All Black is supplied with a rubber strap, which closes on a titanium double-fold clasp. It's water resistant to 50 m, so you can wear it in the pool but not on a serious dive. If you're swimming lengths, that drag-free shape should cut through the water with just as much efficiency as it does through the air.
The Richard Mille RM061-01 Yohan Blake All Black is a serious sports watch for serious collectors. It's way more 'affordable' than the original Yohan Blake model, but still weighs in with a muscular retail value, as you'd expect from a Richard Mille.
